NO to pigsticking in Castilla-La Mancha

The government of Castilla-La Mancha has approved a modification to Hunting Regulations in the Community. The change was published in the Official Journal of C-LM on August 21, 2012. This decree authorizes wild boar hunting with lances, a cruel practice reminiscent of the old days of the British Empire, where "pigsticking", now banned in Britain, was regularly practiced, especially in India.

FEBA resumed the meetings with Government officials of Castilla- La Mancha, to continue processing the 2nd draft of the new law for the protection of animals, initiated by the former government, to replace the current law dating from 1990. FEBA sent their amendments, to the individual who holds responsibility for this issue in Castilla-La-Mancha and has as yet received no answer.

Allowing wild boar hunting with lances will, FEBA considers, constitute a distortion of the new law and represents an enormous step backwards for animal welfare. With such exceptions the scope of the new law will be confined to a simple regulation applying only to pets.
