ADDA promotes the ethical control of urban pigeons

From 19 to 25 November 2018, Ong ADDA together with other associations and in collaboration with the City Council, will be present at an informative stand at Plaza Catalunya of Barcelona to inform of how to protect and improve the quality of life of urban pigeons.

On March 2017, The City Council of Barcelona, started a pilot test by providing to pigeons contraceptive grains (maize treated with nicarbazin) and consequently renounced to the cruel capture and killing of pigeons as the only method to control their overpopulation. Contraceptive food dispensers were installed in different parts of the city.

Plaza Catalunya is an emblematic square downtown Barcelona where lots of tourists and residents regularly feed pigeons, contributing to their overpopulation and consequently may impede the success of the pilot test. From July 2018, the City Council prohibited the sale of food for pigeons at Plaza Catalunya. Currently there are 4 dispensers installed that supply contraceptive corn enough for pigeons each morning.
